WHO WE ARE
The Rocket City Jazz Orchestra has become North Alabama’s most active and sought-after jazz and swing big band. This band is based in Huntsville, Alabama, and delivers exciting big band jazz, swing, and pop music throughout north Alabama and southern Middle Tennessee.
The band’s schedule includes concerts and festivals such as Birmingham’s City Stages and Huntsville’s Concerts in the Park, Panoply of the Arts, and Jazz-N-June. The band performs regularly at fundraisers, wedding receptions, and corporate parties.
Classics from Glenn Miller, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington reside in the band’s library along with big band arrangements of tunes from modern composers such as Gordon Goodwin and Dave Wolpe. This eclectic repertoire ensures performances that appeal to audiences of all ages.
OUR HISTORY
The band, originally known as The Band in Demand, or simply TBD, was formed in 2002 as part of a musical production with a 1940s theme.
At the end of the show’s run, the members decided to keep the band together as an opportunity to play the Great classics.
The community’s enthusiastic response has enabled the band to develop a performance schedule that has attracted the area’s best jazz musicians looking for an opportunity to play big band music on a regular basis.

RCJO has been performing for over 20 years and has logged hundreds of performances throughout Huntsville, Madison, and the Tennessee Valley.

Yes, we can tailor our performances to fit a theme. A few examples of themes requested in the past include Apollo 17 Mission 45th Anniversary for an engagement at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center; 1920’s Orient Express for a fundraiser by St. John’s the Baptist Catholic School; a James Bond theme for an Oakwood University engagement.
Does the band use predetermined setlists, or can they take song requests?
We use both predetermined setlists and accept song requests. However, requests should ideally be submitted before the event.
Can you provide your master playlist in advance?
Yes, we can supply our master playlist upon request.
